My Artist Statement
Send Me Email

As a Chinese immigrant to America, I have always been compelled by issues that dealing with two intertwined but different cultures. One is best represented by my parentage and the way I look, and the way I live. The other is internal, unconsciously and consciously dictated by the confliction of being an Åg American.Åh Unavoidably, this conflation naturally leads to issues that further complicate cultural identity. Ideological, economic, social systems and political factors play as well, fuelling multiplicity that is rarely addressed in describing Chinese-Americans.
Besides of Chinese culture, I have been deeply influenced by Buddhism. As a female artist, I am also sensitive by gender issues. What I am seeking in Art is a way to express or feel a depth going beyond words and concepts, a depth into my self, which is an endless work to me.
Thus what I am left with is the description of my own identity for a working concept. On the most basic level, I express my concept through my self-researching work, to show people of being a Chinese American, a female artist, and a Buddhist as well.
In my art, my goal has been and will continue to be to address these issues, and hopefully I can project some of the complexities of gender, race and culture that are not always apparent.
